Mourne Check Cushion

The Mourne Check cushion brings together heritage design and enduring craftsmanship, originating from the innovative vision of Gerd Hay-Edie. First created in collaboration with renowned designer Robin Day, this fabric became a defining element of his furniture for Hille in 1951, remaining a hallmark of mid-century style throughout his ten-year tenure with the brand.

Today, the Mourne Check is meticulously woven from a blend of durable linen and wool yarns, combining strength with a striking visual appeal. Its distinct check pattern is a testament to timeless design, offering a sophisticated touch to any interior while celebrating the enduring legacy of Mourne Textiles.

The Bilberry colourway of the Mourne Check cushion draws its inspiration from the wild and untamed beauty of the Mourne Mountains. The mid-blue wool yarn is a hard-wearing, richly textured hue reminiscent of the bilberries that scatter across the rugged mountainside, adding bursts of colour to the heather-clad slopes. 

This vibrant blue is paired with a stark black linen, echoing the dramatic shadows of craggy peaks and the depth of the mountain streams.

The iconic check weave, a hallmark of heritage craftsmanship, brings these elements together in a balanced and striking design. The interplay of colours is further enhanced by the tactile quality of the fabric, with the softness of the wool contrasting against the crispness of the linen.
