Welcome to Mourne Textiles
Nestled in the rolling foothills of Rostrevor, County Down, Mourne Textiles embodies a rich heritage of handwoven fabric creation, inspired by a love for textiles and the stunning natural beauty surrounding us. Founded by Gerd Hay-Edie in 1949, we have evolved from a traditional handloom weaving studio into a modern micro-mill, crafting woven fabrics, scarves, rugs, and homeware products that celebrate our heritage with a contemporary twist.
We specialise in using natural fibres such as wool, cotton, and linen, spun locally to create unique textures in our yarns. Our collection features heavy-duty furnishing fabrics, cherished by upholsterers and curtain designers for their texture and drape, as well as a range of homeware items, including cushions, blankets, and tableware. Our fashion accessories include stylish men’s and women’s scarves and neck warmers available in a variety of autumnal and classic shades.
Our designs draw from original patterns created by Gerd Hay-Edie, with iconic styles like Mourne Check and Mourne Tweed still in production. Today, Gerd’s grandson Mario continues this legacy, introducing modern iterations that reflect our evolving aesthetic.
As a small production company, we prioritise attention to detail, ensuring every stage of fabric production is executed by skilled craftspeople dedicated to excellence. We are committed to producing high-quality, luxurious products that will delight textile lovers everywhere. Mourne Textiles Collaborates with Margaret Howell for Paris Design Week 2018
One of the highlights of our year so far is this exciting collaboration with Margaret Howell for Paris Design Week. We were delighted when she approached us about this collaboration, particularly as it uses our fabric in a new range of scarfs so we are branching into the fashion world. We will be transporting a traditional handloom from our workshop in the Mourne Mountains to this exhibition at Paris Design Week. Visitors will be able to see first-hand the remarkable process of hand-weaving. Karen, Gerd’s daughter and Master Weaver will be giving the live weaving demonstrations.
