Placemats - Robin

Created by Gerd Hay-Edie and used by designer Robin Day for Hille in 1951, the Mourne Check was to become a signature fabric widely used for much of his furniture during his ten-year period designing for the brand.

Today, the Mourne Check is woven from a durable linen and wool mix and is available in our original mid-century colour palette of Tollymore, Gorse, Robin and Bilberry. The timeless design is perfect for adding a touch of the Mourne’s to your interior.

The Mourne Check Robin placemats bring a striking burst of colour, inspired by the vibrant red of a robin’s breast perched against the bare branches of winter trees. This rich and eye-catching hue draws from nature’s most iconic sights, creating a bold and warm contrast with the rugged Mourne landscape.

Woven from a blend of durable wool and linen, these placemats are crafted with a pillar-box red wool yarn, interwoven with contrasting black linen. This combination gives the design its modern edge, while remaining rooted in timeless tradition. The vivid red tones, reminiscent of the robin's distinctive plumage, stand out against the earthy textures of the Mourne Mountains, evoking the brightness of berries that dot the landscape during the colder months.

The classic check design creates a geometric pattern that feels both contemporary and sophisticated, while the natural, durable fibres ensure these placemats will withstand everyday use. The Mourne Check Robin placemats add a touch of warmth and personality to any table setting, making them perfect for those who appreciate the beauty of nature and the craftsmanship of heritage design.

These placemats celebrate the vibrancy of nature, offering a perfect way to bring the spirit of the Mourne Mountains into your home, and create a welcoming, timeless atmosphere for your dining experience.
