Mourne Classic Blanket - Duck Egg

These blankets are part of a special sample run created during our design process, with some colour-ways available in limited runs, while others may be introduced into our permanent collection. First produced in the 1980s, Mourne Classic is a lightweight tweed fabric celebrated for its distinctive balance and texture. 

Crafted from soft wool, this material adds warmth and provides a luxurious drape, making it an ideal choice for various applications. The warp, made from a mix of yarn weights unevenly threaded, gives the fabric a unique rhythm that Gerd Hay-Edie likened to the oscillations of the tide, reflecting the ebb and flow in texture and tone.

Originally designed as curtaining material, Mourne Classic's soft texture allows light to gently filter through its light weave and muted colour palette. The fabric’s graceful drape and flow, combined with its softness and durability, make it equally suited for couture applications and the creation of our exquisite blankets.

This collection showcases a carefully curated palette of hues, with certain colours destined to become permanent staples, highlighting the fabric's exceptional craftsmanship. In 1984, the Mourne Classic range was chosen by the London Design Centre for their Design Selection Awards, cementing its reputation as a timeless, versatile, and highly sought-after choice for designers.

The duck egg yarn used in this Classic blanket offers a soothing, delicate hue that draws inspiration from the soft, powdery blues found in nature.
