27th June - Natural Colour and Dying Workshop
Nestled in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains, we are running two hands-on workshops over the last weekend in June. These intimate workshops beautifully compliment each other, and can be booked together to create a wonderful weekend, or individually if interest lies in one creative area more than the other.
These workshops are suitable for everyone; textile lovers and enthusiasts, those wanting a taster of weaving on a four shaft table loom, as well as anyone drawn to working with natural colour and fibres.
No prior experience is required.
THE WORKSHOP - Saturday
FORAGING, NATURAL COLOUR & DYEING
Meet at Mourne Textiles before a short walk to Carlingford Lough to forage for seasonal dye plants. We have easy access to a beach with a fantastic variety of seaweed, and the hedgerows of the Mourne Mountains. Kathryn will talk about sustainable foraging, seasonal colour, and plant selection. Back at the mill we will look at the process of natural dyeing and how to achieve consistent vibrant colours.
Break for lunch.
In the afternoon we’ll create dye baths, explore the natural palettes colour possibilities. We will dye a selection of natural fibres, including fleece from locally sourced sheep, offcuts of woven cloth from the mill and a variety of weaving yarns. These will be dried overnight to use in the weaving workshop the following day if attending both workshops.
