14th June - Darning

In this 2.5-hour workshop we’ll explore woven darning and visible mending. Beginning with the foundational grid technique for repairing holes and thin areas in wool garments. Using contrast thread, colour and pattern to make the repair the feature. All guided step-by-step.

THE WORKSHOP

Meet at Mourne Textiles for tea and coffee and review the different pieces to be mended and learn how to access damage. Catherine will talk through the philosophy of visible mending and demonstrate Square and Seed darns.

This session suits anyone with a wool item that needs attention – moth holed sweaters or a pair of favourite socks! 

No prior experience is required; you’ll leave with practical skills and a finished darned piece
