28th June - Handloom Weaving Workshop
Couldn't load pickup availability
Nestled in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains, we are running two hands-on workshops over the last weekend in June. These intimate workshops beautifully compliment each other, and can be booked together to create a wonderful weekend, or individually if interest lies in one creative area more than the other.
These workshops are suitable for everyone; textile lovers and enthusiasts, those wanting a taster of weaving on a four shaft loom, as well as anyone drawn to working with natural colour and fibres.
THE WORKSHOP - Sunday 28th June
Handloom Weaving Workshop
The day will start with an introduction from Mario and Karen demonstrating loom setup, basic weaving techniques, and how to integrate colour, texture, and composition. Each person will work on their own beautiful four shaft vintage tabletop loom.
This is a unique opportunity to experience weaving in a traditional heritage weaving mill, it’s a very hands-on workshop, less about theory and more about practice. We’ll be able to use the yarns and fleece we have in the mill, mixed with the yarns and fleece dyed the day before, creating endless colour opportunities and textures.
Guided by Mario and Karen who will be on hand throughout the day, we’ll learn how to twist in fleece, and add rags for chunky interest to add depth and texture to our weaving . We’ll leave with a small woven wall hanging or sample for a larger future project.
Led by Mario Sierra and Karen Hay-Edie
