The Mourne Check fabric embodies heritage design and enduring craftsmanship, originating from the innovative vision of Gerd Hay-Edie. First created in collaboration with renowned designer Robin Day, this fabric became a defining element of his furniture for Hille in 1951, remaining a hallmark of mid-century style throughout his ten-year tenure with the brand.
Meticulously woven from a blend of durable linen and wool yarns, Mourne Check combines strength with striking visual appeal. Its distinct check pattern is a testament to timeless design, celebrating the enduring legacy of Mourne Textiles.
The Tollymore Mourne Check fabric draws its vibrant inspiration from the rich, natural beauty of Tollymore Forest, nestled at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. The bright green wool yarn evokes the lush, sunlit canopy of trees and the vivid mosses that carpet the forest floor, infusing the design with a sense of vitality and life.
Contrasted by stark black linen, mirroring the shadowy outlines of ancient tree trunks and the deep forest undergrowth, the interplay of these colours creates a striking checkerboard pattern reminiscent of light filtering through the woodland.
Each square of colour reflects the forest’s contrasts—bright, dappled greens set against the grounding strength of shadowy black. The blend of hard-wearing wool and crisp linen enhances both texture and durability, uniting natural fibres with heritage craftsmanship.
This shorter length is ideal for smaller creative projects such as homeware or upholstery. To keep costs down, the fabric will be sent folded in sustainable packaging.
