Our Milano Rug is handwoven using specialist techniques and combines three yarn types that create a unique surface texture. Defining our mid-century design heritage, the Milano Rug was first produced in 1951 when our founder Gerd Hay-Edie collaborated with furniture designer Robin Day on an installation for the Tiennale di Milano.

The Milano Rug defines our mid-century design heritage. It is hand woven in our workshop using the highest quality yarns.
The rug was first produced in 1951 when Gerd Hay-Edie collaborated with furniture designer Robin Day to dress a room for 'La Triennale di Milano'. Robin Day went on to exhibit Gerd’s new design at the Festival of Britain. He exhibited The Milano Rug alongside his own furniture, etched panels by Geoffrey Clarke, and ceramics by Hans Coper and Lucie Rie.
We honour the same materials and techniques Gerd used over sixty years ago to produce this rug true to the original. Its combination of three yarn types create a unique surface texture: the linen warp adds strength, while looped woolen yarn and unspun hand twisted fleece offer softness and warmth.
