Our luxurious Scarves, Shawls and Neck Warmers blend soft merino wool, silk and cashmere, perfect for keeping you snug and the cold at bay. The colours and textures draw inspiration from the landscape surrounding our workshop at the foothills of the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. Gentle muted tones mix with flecks and flashes of complimentary and contrasting colours.
Each piece is individually handwoven on vintage shuttle looms, almost a century old, that create a rich weave full of character and a hard-wearing woven selvedge, or self-finished edge.
The weave of this Textured Herringbone Scarf is based on an original design by Mourne Textiles’ founder Gerd Hay-Edie from the 1960s for Irish fashion designer Sheila Mullally. The yarn mix creates a soft, luxurious scarf with subtle colour variation from scattered nepps and burrs, characteristic of our custom-spun yarns from Donegal.
These scarves are woven on vintage shuttle looms in our workshop at the foothills of the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. Our Hattersley looms, first developed in 1919, are tried and tested over decades, creating a rich weave and woven selvedge. The scarf designs and colours are inspired by the landscape of the Mourne peninsula.
