We are thrilled to announce the launch of Mourne Weavers, a new joint venture with Ulster Carpets that will enable us to expand our scope and product range as part of our long-term evolution.
“In terms of quality craftsmanship, bespoke designs and local heritage, both Mourne Textiles and Ulster Carpets have a shared philosophy and a strong passion for our industry. That is why the creation of Mourne Weavers is the perfect partnership,” explains Mario Sierra, Creative Director, Mourne Textiles.
The new partnership will allow us to retain the core strengths and integrity of Mourne Textiles while growing into new sectors with Mourne Weavers, which will concentrate on furnishing and curtain fabrics, cushions and blankets for the commercial interior design market. Crucially, by partnering with Ulster Carpets, we will be working with one of the biggest names in Northern Irish weaving. They are a family-run firm with local roots and one with which we already have strong ties – indeed Mario’s grandmother Gerd Hay-Edie worked with their mills when she first launched Mourne Textiles.
David Acheson, Head of Strategic Operations at Ulster Carpets, spoke of his excitement at working with Mourne Textiles to develop the new brand. “We have no doubt that we will be able to combine this expertise with our knowledge of the global market to firmly establish Mourne Weavers within the commercial sector.”Nick Coburn, Group Managing Director at Ulster Carpets, adds, “This investment in Mourne Weavers is indicative of the forward-thinking ethos of both companies and is in line with the core values of quality and design at Ulster Carpets.”
The new venture will enable us to develop as a major global business, giving us more flexibility as well as capacity to delve further into the archives – not to mention being able to create more jobs and bring more weavers to the Mournes.
This is the start of something very exciting for us – watch this space for more news…!
